Cardiomega™ is a Natreon-branded cardiovascular formulation built around Capros® standardized amla (Phyllanthus emblica) extract — a galloyl-tannin-rich concentrate with emblicanin A and B — the clinically studied anchor of the blend for healthy lipid metabolism and oxidative balance. The direct branded clinical literature for the finished Cardiomega™ blend is limited; most of the supporting evidence comes from human trials on its anchor ingredient, Capros®/Amlamax-class amla extract, which has been shown to improve endothelial function, lower markers of lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde), lower hsCRP, and support a healthier lipid profile in overweight adults and people with type 2 diabetes.

Studied Dose Capros® amla extract (anchor component): 250-500 mg twice daily. Finished Cardiomega™: follow label directions.
Active Compound Capros® standardized Phyllanthus emblica (amla) extract — galloyl tannins, emblicanin A and B, gallic acid — the clinically studied anchor of the Cardiomega™ blend.

Benefits

Healthy lipid profile support

Human trials of Capros®-class standardized amla extract — the anchor component of Cardiomega™ — show meaningful reductions in calculated LDL cholesterol and the total-cholesterol-to-HDL ratio in overweight and metabolically at-risk adults, helping support a cardiovascular-friendly lipid profile over 12 weeks of daily use.

Endothelial function and vascular tone

Standardized amla extract supports endothelial function as measured by digital volume pulse reflection index in adults with type 2 diabetes. The improvement is consistent with better nitric oxide signaling and may help maintain healthy arterial responsiveness.

Antioxidant defense for cardiovascular tissues

Amla's galloyl tannins and slow-release vitamin C help reduce oxidative damage to LDL particles and vascular cells — an upstream factor in atherosclerotic plaque development — supporting overall cardiovascular antioxidant balance.

Cardiovascular inflammation balance

Standardized amla extract has been shown to lower hsCRP and other inflammatory markers in adults with elevated cardiometabolic risk, helping support a healthy inflammatory state alongside diet and lifestyle measures.

Mechanism of action

1

LDL oxidation defense via galloyl tannins

Emblicanin A and B and free gallic acid scavenge reactive oxygen species and quench lipid peroxyl radicals, reducing oxidative modification of LDL particles — a key initiating event in atherogenesis.

2

Endothelial NO support

Amla polyphenols help preserve endothelial nitric oxide bioavailability by lowering local oxidative stress and quenching superoxide that would otherwise react with NO, supporting flow-mediated dilation and vascular reactivity.

3

NF-κB and hsCRP modulation

Gallic acid and ellagitannins downregulate NF-κB-driven cytokine transcription in vascular and hepatic tissues, helping reduce systemic inflammatory load reflected in hsCRP and related markers.

Clinical trials

1
Capros® Amla Extract for CV Risk in Overweight Adults

12-week supplementation trial with standardized P. emblica extract (Capros®, 500 mg twice daily) in overweight and class-1 obese US adults. Measured calculated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL ratio, hsCRP, and platelet aggregation.

Overweight and class-1 obese adults (BMI 25–35).

Standardized amla extract significantly reduced calculated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL ratio, and hsCRP. ADP- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation were significantly decreased after 12 weeks. Supports use of the Capros® amla anchor component for healthy lipid and vascular endpoints.

2
Amla Extract for Endothelial Function in T2D

Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial comparing standardized P. emblica extract (250 or 500 mg twice daily) with atorvastatin 10 mg and placebo over 12 weeks in 80 adults with type 2 diabetes. Outcomes: endothelial function (reflection index), malondialdehyde, glutathione, hsCRP, lipid profile, HbA1c.

80 adults with type 2 diabetes. 12-week intervention.

All active arms significantly improved endothelial reflection index versus placebo. The higher amla dose produced reductions in malondialdehyde and hsCRP comparable to atorvastatin 10 mg, along with improvements in lipid profile and HbA1c. Well-tolerated across groups.

Side effects and drug interactions

Common Potential side effects

Mild gastrointestinal upset, loose stools, or acidity at higher amla doses.
Rare allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to Phyllanthus or related plants.
May lower blood glucose modestly; monitor in people with diabetes.
May lower LDL and blood pressure modestly; monitor in those on therapy.

Important Drug interactions

Antiplatelets and anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) — amla may further reduce platelet aggregation; monitor.
Antihyperglycemics (metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin) — additive glucose-lowering; monitor blood sugar.
Statins and other lipid-lowering drugs — overlapping LDL and oxidative effects; monitor lipids.
Antihypertensives — possible additive blood-pressure reduction; monitor BP.

Frequently asked questions about Cardiomega™

What is Cardiomega?

Cardiomega™ is a Natreon-branded cardiovascular formulation built around Capros® standardized amla (Phyllanthus emblica) extract — a galloyl-tannin-rich concentrate with emblicanin A and B — the clinically studied anchor of the blend for healthy lipid metabolism and oxidative balance.

What is Cardiomega used for?

Cardiomega is researched primarily for Cardiovascular, Antioxidant, and Metabolic Health. Human trials of Capros®-class standardized amla extract — the anchor component of Cardiomega™ — show meaningful reductions in calculated LDL cholesterol and the total-cholesterol-to-HDL ratio in overweight and metabolically at-risk adults,…

What is the recommended dosage of Cardiomega?

The clinically studied dose is Capros® amla extract (anchor component): 250-500 mg twice daily. Finished Cardiomega™: follow label directions. Always follow the product label and check with a healthcare provider for personal advice.

Is Cardiomega safe, and does it have side effects?

For most healthy adults, Cardiomega is well tolerated at studied doses. Reported effects can include: Mild gastrointestinal upset, loose stools, or acidity at higher amla doses. Rare allergic reaction in individuals sensitive to Phyllanthus or related plants. It may also interact with some medications. Cardiomega is not right for everyone, so check with a healthcare provider first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or take prescription medication.

Does Cardiomega interact with any medications?

Possible interactions include: Antiplatelets and anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel) — amla may further reduce platelet aggregation; monitor. Antihyperglycemics (metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin) — additive glucose-lowering; monitor blood sugar. If you take prescription medication, check with a pharmacist or doctor before using it.
