Benefits
Gas and bloating relief
Gastrap is marketed for intestinal gas and bloating, but no clinical efficacy trial has tested this outcome. The available human study (Neyrinck 2021) measured fermentation and tolerability rather than symptom relief, so a gas- or bloating-reducing effect remains unproven.
Microbiota restoration
The chitin-glucan fiber may act as a prebiotic substrate for beneficial gut bacteria; a microbiota-restoring effect has been seen in laboratory and rat studies but has not been demonstrated in human trials.
Digestive transit
Like other fermentable fibers, it supports healthy, regular transit through the gut.
Mechanism of action
Slow colonic fermentation
Chitin-glucan ferments gradually along the colon, producing short-chain fatty acids with a low level of gas while feeding beneficial bacteria.
Prebiotic microbiota support
By selectively nourishing beneficial bacteria, the fiber may serve as a prebiotic substrate for beneficial bacteria; an effect on bloating has not been established in clinical trials.
