Blood sugar support (responder subgroup in one trial)
In a published double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial in Type 2 diabetic adults, In the cited trial, HbA1c — the marker reflecting average blood glucose over the prior 2-3 months — declined significantly only in a pre-defined subgroup of responders (P=.03), not in the total cohort. This is a limited, subgroup-only finding rather than an established overall effect.
Systolic blood pressure reduction
The same trial documented a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure with Portusana. The systolic blood pressure reduction was significant in the total cohort (-7.5 vs -0.01 mmHg); the glycemic effect in the same trial was limited to a responder subgroup.
Lipid parameters (generic purslane data)
The branded Portusana trial measured lipids but did not report a significant lipid improvement. Separate meta-analyses of generic (non-branded) purslane report reductions in cholesterol and triglycerides; whether the branded extract shares this effect is not established.
Very small clinical dose (180 mg/day)
The dose studied was 180 mg/day, taken as three capsules per day. A convenient dose may aid adherence, but a low milligram amount does not by itself indicate greater efficacy than higher-dose alternatives.
Mild taste supports flexible formats
Taste and format flexibility are manufacturing considerations for product developers, not health benefits for the person taking the supplement.

Confirmed earlier open-application trial findings

Mechanism of action
Glucose homeostasis support
Purslane bioactives improve glucose homeostasis — addressing the underlying glycemic control rather than single-pathway intervention. In the branded trial, HbA1c fell significantly only in a responder subgroup, so sustained glucose control over 2-3 months is not established for the overall population.
Antioxidant activity
Purslane is rich in antioxidants including vitamins, flavonoids, and omega-3 fatty acids (notably high for a land plant). Antioxidant activity supports vascular health relevant for diabetic complications prevention. Diabetes-related oxidative stress contributes to microvascular and macrovascular complications.
Blood pressure modulation
Portusana's effect on systolic blood pressure may involve vasodilation, electrolyte modulation, or reduced inflammatory contribution to BP. Mechanism complements the glycemic effects — particularly relevant for diabetic populations with cardiovascular risk.
