Vitamin A and antioxidant support
Beta-carotene is a provitamin A carotenoid, and vitamin A has established nutritional roles in vision, skin, and immune function. That is general nutrition science rather than a finding for this product: none of the studies cited here measured vision, and the one human trial measured skin and cytokine responses to UV light.
What the one human trial measured
The only human trial cited here (Groten 2019, PMID 30836363) was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled multicenter study of tomato phytonutrients. It measured minimal erythemal dose, erythema formation, and the inflammatory cytokines IL6 and TNF-alpha, and it reported significant protection against UVB-induced upregulation of IL6 and TNF-alpha. The study product was described as tomato phytonutrients and was not named as Carotex. No vision, macular pigment, or other eye outcome was assessed, and the cytokine results came from UVB-exposed skin rather than from a test of immune function.

Natural carotenoids have a clear nutritional role, but dedicated published clinical data for this specific blend are limited.
Mechanism of action
Provitamin A conversion
The body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A as needed, and that conversion is regulated, so beta-carotene does not produce the vitamin A excess that preformed retinol can. This does not offset the smoker caution, which comes from large trials of high-dose beta-carotene supplements.
Carotenoid antioxidant action
In laboratory work the carotenoids quench singlet oxygen and free radicals. This is a proposed mechanism described in the cited review, not an outcome measured in people taking Carotex.
