Muscle and strength: mostly null in the one cited study
Whey protein is a complete, leucine-rich protein that helps people meet daily protein targets. The single study cited on this page, a 2024 meta-analysis of 26 randomized trials in 2,105 adults aged 60 and over, found whey protein did not significantly improve handgrip strength (SMD 0.18) or lean body mass (SMD 0.02). The one significant result was lower-body strength, and only when whey was combined with resistance training (SMD 0.25), so the exercise may account for much of that effect. The trials used generic whey protein, not Carbelac.
Recovery: not tested on this page
Whey is digested quickly and supplies all nine essential amino acids, which is why it is popular after training. No trial has tested Carbelac for recovery, and the single study cited on this page measured strength and walking ability in adults aged 60 and over. It did not measure recovery or any outcome in athletes.
Healthy aging and protein gap

Mechanism of action
Leucine-triggered muscle synthesis
Whey is rich in leucine, which in laboratory research activates the mTOR pathway involved in muscle protein synthesis. This is a mechanism observed in the lab, and on its own it does not show that Carbelac changes strength or muscle size in people.
Complete amino acid profile
Whey provides all nine essential amino acids in a fast-digesting form, so it counts as a complete protein source. That is a fact about what whey contains, not a measured outcome from any trial of Carbelac.

Most outcomes were not significant. Handgrip strength (SMD 0.18), the 6-minute walk test (SMD -0.08), gait speed (SMD -0.08) and lean body mass (SMD 0.02) all showed no significant benefit from whey protein. The only significant finding was lower-body strength when whey was combined with resistance training (SMD 0.25), meaning the exercise may be doing much of the work. Carbelac is a whey protein concentrate, but this analysis did not test Carbelac.
