Benefits
Liver support
Silybin is studied for supporting liver health and protecting liver cells, the traditional use of milk thistle, with the phytosome improving how much reaches the body.
Antioxidant protection
Silybin is a strong antioxidant that helps defend liver and other cells against oxidative damage.
Improved absorption
The phosphatidylcholine complex greatly improves silybin's bioavailability compared with ordinary milk thistle extract.
Mechanism of action
Phytosome absorption
Binding silybin to phosphatidylcholine creates a lipid-compatible complex that crosses the gut wall far more efficiently than free silybin.
Hepatoprotective antioxidant action
Silybin stabilizes liver-cell membranes, scavenges free radicals, and supports liver-cell regeneration pathways.
Clinical trials
Study of a silybin COCRYSTAL formulation with improved solubility and bioavailability — a different delivery form than the phytosome. (Zhu et al. 2025, Pharmaceuticals)
Laboratory and bioavailability assessment.
A cocrystal formulation of silybin — a different delivery form than the Phosphocomplex phytosome — showed markedly higher solubility and bioavailability, illustrating the general poor-solubility problem that formulation approaches (including the phytosome) aim to solve. It is not a study of Phosphocomplex itself, and human outcome data for the silybin phytosome are limited.
