In 60 children, lutein and zeaxanthin gummies (10 mg lutein, 2 mg zeaxanthin) raised macular pigment density and serum carotenoids and reduced eye strain and fatigue versus placebo over 180 days, with some cognitive and flicker-fusion measures also improving. The primary endpoint, macular pigment density, is a surrogate marker rather than a clinical vision outcome.
