Benefits
Cognition and memory
In the cited meta-analysis (Tan 2015), standardized Ginkgo biloba extract supported cognition and daily function specifically in older adults with cognitive impairment or dementia. Large prevention trials in healthy elderly (GEM, GuidAge) found no benefit, and memory enhancement in healthy adults is not well established. Most of this evidence comes from the EGb761 extract rather than GinPure specifically. Circulation
Ginkgo supports healthy blood flow, including to the brain and extremities, part of its traditional use.
Antioxidant support
Ginkgo flavonoids provide antioxidant protection for brain and blood-vessel tissue.
Mechanism of action
Microcirculation support
Ginkgo's flavone glycosides and terpene lactones support blood-vessel function and healthy circulation to the brain and periphery.
Antioxidant neuroprotection
Ginkgo antioxidants protect neurons and blood vessels from oxidative stress, supporting cognitive function.
Clinical trials
Systematic review and meta-analysis of Ginkgo biloba for cognitive impairment and dementia. (Tan et al. 2015, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease)
Adults with cognitive impairment across trials.
Ginkgo biloba extract supported cognition and daily function in cognitively impaired adults, with a good safety profile.
